About Us
Buhund Mafia is about Hettie, a Hearing Dog for Deaf People and her recipient, Ian.
Please allow me to introduce myself, my name is Hettie and I'm a beautiful Norwegian Buhund. A what I hear you cry, a Buhund basically means I'm a Farm Dog, we are the national breed of Norway. However, I don't work on a Norwegian farm but as a Hearing Dog For Deaf People in the United Kingdom. I'm what is known as an Assistance Dog, this means that I'm legally allowed to go everywhere with my Recipient such as shops, workplace, hospitals, restaurants, public transport and I've even had my own seat on an aeroplane.
What do I do? I alert Ian to sounds that he can't hear such as doorbell, cooker timer, smoke alarm, intruder alarm, alarm clock. Deafness can be lonely and isolating so I'm a good companion, it is also a hidden disability but when I'm out and about I wear my Burgundy Jacket which alerts people to the fact that he's deaf.
I love sleeping in front of the fire but I have to be alert for sounds as well as making sure the two cats who I live with, Jade and Chloe don't pinch my spot in front of the fire. I love going for walks in forests or moutains, meeting people and playing with other dogs. My Recipient is clearly mad as he has a picture of me on his leg as well as lots of other pictures which you can see in the Ian Gallery. He loves me very much and I couldn't ask for a better owner.
